How to clean your microwave the easy way
The inside of the microwave is one of those places that’s easy to forget to clean. I use it often, shut the door, and walk away. Luckily, I’ve found a simple way to clean it that’s quick and doesn’t require too much manpower.
All you need is a microwave safe bowl – such as Pyrex – filled with about 2 cups of water. Place it in the center of the microwave and heat it on high for about 5 minutes, or until the water comes to a rolling boil. The water will turn to steam and soften up any food that has been baked-on to the inside of the microwave.
Let the bowl sit inside the microwave for another 5 minutes so the steam can work its magic. This also allows the water to cool a bit before you remove the bowl. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL and make sure small children and pets are not nearby, as the water will still be hot. Then wipe down the inside of the microwave with a wet cloth. The food should easily wipe right up!
I have also read that a few drops of white vinegar or lemon juice added to the water will aid in the absorption of odors and help break up any grease.
If you use a microwave heating pad, make sure your microwave is always clean. Grease and food debris can soil the heating pad and potentially cause the fabric to burn during heating. For good measure, I always place my Maine Warmers Microwave Heating Pad on a microwave safe plate. Just in case I haven’t cleaned the microwave in a while.
